Awesome Fabrics galore

In my last post I said I had some new fabrics to share 

At the Trade show in Sydney recently I meet up with the F.D Textiles mob.

Kathryn nicely sent me out this lovely array of Australian designer fabrics.

Fabrics are by Verity Hindwood & Moyra Jones

I'm hoping after my trip to New York - I will be full to the brim with ideas for all of these lovely fabrics

I was also luckily given some of Saffron Craig's new range of fabrics 

"Wombat Wonderland" last week when I meet up with her at the ABC meetup

very cute looking & I'm anticipating the two fabrics down the bottom will be great for binding - watch this space for a quilt - soon.

and below my Shed revamp is coming together nicely!

The cladding is going on, storage has been bought(IKEA),kids making them selves comfy and projects are resuming.

This weekend I'm off to CLOTH Fabrics to help in a community Craft Project - should be lots of fun!

One of my Fav's

If only I had more hours in a day I could make all the things that are swimming around in my head, using up all the great fabric that is out there.

My taste in fabric is eclectic - Depending on my mood and even the weather. One minute I'll have a 1930's mini dogs reproduction print in my hand and the next I'll have the large scale graphic screen printed fabrics of CLOTH Fabric. 

I know I have talked about it several times before but it really is remarkable the choices we have when it comes to fabric choices and availability. We have so much talent world wide and its all at our finger tips.

One of the clever Australian fabric designers/ Artists I love to work with is Julie Paterson from CLOTH Fabric. I was in the new shop today and having a look around - its full to the brim of exciting possibilities.

I made this quilt a while back for the CLOTH gang. I love how the large scale prints look in this zig zag quilt.

Some of the prints in this quilt are not being reprinted and only a limited amount is left...

I'm still here!

Its been a hectic fortnight here

Thought I would let you all know that all is well - just a tad busy!

I have had a few emails asking what I'm up too :) Its lovely especially when I'm busy to open up my emails and read that I'm missed or people wanting to know what I'm up to.

We have had another birthday - Which generally means lots of cooking & present preparation for me.

To prove how busy I was - I didn't even get a picture of the birthday cake! It was my first attempt at a ice cream cake and something I will definitely try again. Incredibly easy and delicious.

I'm enjoying the last of Autumn, its my favourite season for food and weather - not to mention the light for photos.

My husband picked up a box of fresh figs on the weekend and we ate them with everything!

best of all was on fresh made banana bread sliced & toasted with ricotta and figs on top......... Heaven

On the quilting front - I had a question about the rug that features in my Log cabin photo. Its a Danish design and made in Nepal.

Its has many names the original the rug was called Pinocchio named after a Danish lolly it has also been called the Freckle rug, smarties rug. Lots around if your interested in buying one.Just check that its a fair trade rug.

I have mountains of Fabric projects that I'm working on and as usual I cant show them........

below I have a sneaky look at a quilt I was working on for CLOTH Fabric in Sydney Australia. I love working with the light weight linens - so easy to sew. I like the extra width of the linen too.

I've also been doing a bit more photographic work which is really great

Wise old Owl

Remember this Quilt ? I started it back here.

Have I ever told you how much I love my long arm machine Quilter?!? I use Kim Bradley & she is fantastic!!

I love going to her place & checking out whats going on in the world of quilting - I learn so much. 

On the particular morning I went over to Kim's with this quilt top - I was rather hazy.

 It was the end of a long school holidays, I had work piled high & sleep was much needed.

I also wasn't entirely convinced that this was one of my greatest quilt tops, It seemed a bit plain and I was concerned that your average long arm quilting was going to make it naff.

I expressed my concern to Kim - she always has an answer!

On the machine behind me was a quilt being done with a new long arm pattern......Owls!

 I love Owls!

Its the sweetest pattern ever & it gave the plain simple quilt top the perfect lift that it desperately needed.

Very happy indeed

The backing is an IKEA text print - love it and very reasonably priced.

The centre fabric is from CLOTH

and the rest is a mix of Lotta Jansdotter's Echo range, Sweetwater, Denyse Schmidt & My text fabric on spoonflower.

Its really light and fresh in its colours & design. I seem to be doing a lot of pinks & yellows together.

 In other happenings - below we have some sneaks at other work I'm in the midst of

I'm really enjoying working with the new range from Lotta Jansdotter "Bella" - Due in store in August 2012. 

Miss 5 is home sick "Helping"

and I'm testing out a template I have designed with some of my spoonflower fabrics!

all Systems go in our house!

I'm also enjoying the cold but sunny Sydney weather.

On a binding roll & other bits

I've been binding quilts all day!

and here is number 1

This is my take on a log cabin block.

I wrote about it originally back here.

The log cabin is very easy to piece together - Its quick & effective.

It still amazes me after all these years of quilting - how much of a change the quilting actually makes. This one was long arm machine quilted by Kim Bradley

The text fabric is my Pride & Prejudice text design - available at my shop

and the postman delivered some Heather Ross fabric! now I can get started on another one of my little miss quilt tops - I plan on writing up the pattern/ dimensions. Keep an eye out for that post soon

on an extra note before I get back into work mode 

The Ladies at CLOTH Fabric are participating in the City of Sydney Garage sale trail.

Its on this saturday 5th May.

I used cloth fabric in the middle squares of the log cabin quilt.

When your looking at the fabric - you need to remember that its a very wide fabric 140cm, keep that in mind when your ordering your length.

Should be lots of fun!

Fabric choices in recent quilts

Hi!

sorry I've been quiet.....

Its School holidays here in Sydney Australia & everything in my normal working week goes out the window. 3/4 of the kids go back to school tomorrow - fingers crossed I get all my bits n pieces finished off this week and handed over.

I've had a few emails asking about fabrics I had used in recent quilts that appeared in Modern Patchwork

I very excitingly had three quilts appear in the new Interweave  publication & one was on the cover :)

The Fabrics for the Yellow wide Stripe quilt

- all the text fabric is from my spoonflower BeaSpokeQuilts shop

- The yellow flower is a Robert Kaufman Fabric

- White homespun

- The binding is a grey & white honeycomb

- the yellow check is Unknown! 

I bought it as an end of bolt special at Material Obsession a long long time ago (before they moved), If anyone can help name it Id appreciate it or even maybe let me know of a similar fabric design thats currently around?

The Fabric for the Monochromatic Text Quilt is all from my spoonflower designs

& the binding is the grey & white honeycomb again

the back is pieced of all my left over bits n pieces

The Linen Square Block Quilt is Made out of

- Natural linen

- the inside square is linen

- the first frame is Liberty of London pink Paisley

- the second frame is Isso Echo, it might be tricky to find

- the third frame is Anna Maria Horner Little Folks Village Path

- the fourth is by Working CLOTH although it appears the pink is no longer made!

This is the Swoon block I've been working on, I'm waiting on more fabric to arrive from my Spoonflower shop so that I can finish it all off.

and here I have some bits and pieces from a quilt I'm making for The Lovely Ladies at CLOTH Fabric 

Its a great weight fabric to work with and fantastic colour range.

Have a sticky beak at the online store - they currently have some swatch book bundles for sale which would make a great addition to a quilt.

Quilts/ design/ home & Denim :)

My house is predominately decorated with quilts, quilts that are finished, quilts that are used, quilts that are being made, quilt block fragments that are being nutted out & designs finalised.... the list goes forever.

I'm very passionate about using fabric to add colour and life to my home.

In writing my blog and showing my quilts I'm 

trying to show that fabric design & patchwork

 quilts are an integral part of contemporary

 furnishings & house design.

The individuality of each piece also adds to its appeal.

Talking of making and designing with fabric,

I had a great visit to CLOTH last week. 

I made this denim quilt a while back as a prototype - I was looking at using Denim in quilting. I'm only just finishing it off and adding the binding. 

Its a big one - largish double bed size.

It would be lovely for a autumn/ winter look.

I'm a big fan of changing bed covers and throws to match the season - Its an easy way to change the look of a room.
