Quiet always means real work is going on

This is a little snap shot of what my week has looked like

I've been head down sewing - attempting to finish some big tricky quilts

I cant show you the quilt - But I can show you the colours! (bit cheeky)

This grouping of fabrics below is for the next quilt. I like to prep one quilt as I'm working on one.

It keeps my mind working and interested - I'm going back to some more subtle fabrics Liberty/ Linen/ text after working with the extra brights above.

The text fabric is my own and available on Spoonflower or I have a few Fat Quarters available in my ETSY shop

I've been looking at some posts/ blogs about Quilt Con that was held recently in Austin USA

The conference looked fantastic - Its made me want to make one of Denyse Schmidt's wonky scrap quilts, and I think my scrap basket is screaming to be used!

After these two/ three quilts are made for "work" purposes I plan on making either another trip around the world quilt or a Wonky improve quilt .... and a messenger bag! I'm desperate to make a bag

In all my cutting of late I have cemented in my mind forever more that 1 Fat Quarter of fabric gives you 30 X 3.5 inch squares
Handy to know....

I still haven't gotten around to photographing my "Bella" quilt that is on the cover of Down Under Quilts #156

I've had lots of emails about sourcing fabrics for the quilt - I had a look and found these

I noticed that Purl Bee's online shop has most of the range

http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/8819-Windham-Fabrics-Bella

and so does

Fabric Worm

http://www.fabricworm.com/loja.html

and
The Fat Quarter shop

http://www.fatquartershop.com/Bella-Lotta-Jansdotter-Windham-Fabrics.asp

even though the fabric line "Bella" only came out at the end-ish of last year it seems to have sold quickly?!

The Quilt was long arm machine quilted by Kim Bradley in a funky fans pattern

In other news I'm going to Spring Quilt Market in May!
its going to be held in Portland, Oregon USA

I've never been before and happy for any hints!

anyway
I best be off

We have a big weekend of Kid focused activities and hopefully some sewing :)

Home

Holy roly, me, oh my, you’re the apple of my eye.

I've been stuck at home for over a week! I've

had a bit of an old man cough and trying to

rest up - sleeping mostly so not much has been

going on in the creative department, thanks to

my third lot of antibiotics I'm almost back to

 myself...almost

No your eyes haven't gone - I forgot to turn the auto focus on :) but I liked the colour and movement.

here is what it should look like actually focused.

I still think it looks like the entry way floor to a big old beautiful house

53 x 37 inches

I used my Pride & Prejudice fabric that I designed and printed on spoonflower and my left over bits of Liberty of London fabric that I had from my previous Quilt.

I used my full 1 yard of fabric in the pride & prejudice fabric.

Its a bright little quilt - I think it would be a lovely addition anywhere, but maybe a cot or stroller blanket or rug to play on?
Very easy to whip up.

It would look fantastic as a Big persons Quilt!

Now I just have to work out how to Quilt it?

Below I have some surplus & with being busy & having a few projects on the go I know I'm not going to use them.

I'm going to give them away :)

Leave a comment in this post,
Ill leave it open till Sat 28th May 10pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.

please make sure you make a comment with an email address so that I can contact you if you win the fabric.

There have been some beautiful mini quilts and hand made sewing kits on lots of blogs which would look so pretty with these little bits of fabric.

This is it - all together, lots of pretty liberty and Pride & Prejudice fabric

eight 5 X 5 inch squares in Liberty and Text

& lots of little mini triangles (around 2.5 inch X 3.5 inch) in Liberty & Text fabric.

Did anyone guess my song reference ?

Impostor!

Way back in another life when I was being interviewed for a spot in my Photography course I remember feeling very confident of my abilities, I then remember getting the letter of acceptance and thinking "Oh No! now they're going to realise I'm no good....... blah blah blah".
Oh course I was fine and I then got a job as a cadet photographer.
I later changed my direction and transferred to a Degree in  Social Work, which again was great - I Studied hard worked hard and loved my student placements. When I got my first real job in social work which I loved and had been striving for my whole degree - The feelings popped up again "what will I do when they find out I don't know what I'm talking about" etc etc.

I was thinking all this through as I was ironing my quilt top - I was laughing at how I still don't consider myself a quilter and when asked if I'm a quilter I respond with "oh not really". I also tell people I cant sew - go figure?

Anyway my point of all this Impostor talk and how it started was actually this Quilt.
It's in the shape of a Union Jack - but it's not a Union Jack, as I was ironing my quilt that I designed/Cut and had Sewn together I though of all the people I know and what they have accomplished  - Not many of them would recognise there own abilities. Funny really..........

So it appears I am a Quilter and I can sew :)

Here are all my recent Union Jack Impostors

*note the spotty dog
This one I finished today, I'm calling it my Convict Union Jack - It has the last bit of my text fabric I designed and printed and then mixed in with some linen and white. It's king size and has a nice big overhang.

*and also the spotty Miss 4yr

That's it from me Xx

Yes or No ?

I'm very non comital with a lot of my answers - mostly when it comes to the kids questions. So much so that even my four year old has caught on and will press me with "Is that a yes or a no?"

So with that in mind I created a Yes and No version of my Thesaurus text fabric.

I mixed it up with some yellow Robert Kaufmann, plain white and a scrap of a yellow and grey check I had left over.

I  made it 1.8 x 1.7, which will be a nice snuggly size for the lounge. With the bright modern mix I thought it would suite a lounge room. Great way to update your colours and add some fun.

I've also been busy rearranging the house.
My Stash has a new home, although still not perfect I'm very happy with the change of home for most of my sewing stuff. One day i might even have a sewing room..........

That's me for today - Nice to catch up and be home after two weeks away :)

Can't Keep secrets

Im awful at keeping things to myself, especially when it comes to keeping projects quiet, I get so excited about them that I cant help talk about them or show pictures of them - this is one I have been holding onto for a while. I thought I did really well considering I started the design process some months ago.
I was going to wait till it was quilted and binding done, but i just couldn't wait.
I designed all the fabric myself and had it digitally printed then designed a quilt to really show up the Text in the fabric.
I Love it and I am very very happy with it. If you look closely the Text is actually the names of my kids and the numbers are their dates of Birth.
I'm going to start making these for people, Custom printed fabric with Text of your choice then made into a heirloom quilt.

This is the back of the Text Quilt, I added a bit of Yellow to it.
This one is going to be Machine quilted and I have designed the pattern which is going to be used to quilt it - I'll be very excited to see this one finished.

Im still waiting on one tiny bit of fabric to finish this baby off, I have five squares done, just need to finish and add the sixth square and then it's done!
I have enough fabric to make this one two more times in single bed size, so give me a yell if your interested, usually takes me a month to fill an order. I really like the colour combination in this one.

Thats me done for the weekend - slowly but surely catching up and finishing
