Harlequin Chevron Quilt

HELLO!

I just arrived home to Sydney today - after being in New York for two weeks.

If you follow me on instagram you would have seen my millions of travel photos.....

and if your in Australia you may have seen this? in the last week.

Spotlight Australia has released a quilting book with 18 patterns in it...... One being my chevron quilt!

I still don't have my hands on a copy of the book and I'm busting to see who else is in it and what patterns they have.

My quilt is made out of the Spotlight Australia solids range and all out of fat 1/4's - including the

front/ back & binding

and just as an interesting bit of info - the knitted blanket on the bed was made by my Nana and Aunties when my eldest was born (13.5 years ago) Nana gave everyone wool and a square to knit and then put it all together. Funnily enough - I cant knit to save my life.... I obviously missed that gene. 

The quilt was long arm machine quilted by Kim Bradley in a figure 8 pattern - my go to pattern for most quilts. 

I'm off... I'm a bit jet lagged and delirious!

stop to smell the roses

Gosh time flies!

I made this quilt back in June this year for a Modern Quilts special for Australian Quilters Companion.....

and finally today it landed in my letter box!

the magazine should hit the shelves during the next week or so - its worth a look and I have some very fine company :) 

 I read a newsletter recently by Denise Schmidt and she talked about taking a second to congratulate yourself and note all your achievements in 2012, she noted that life and work can be a whirl wind and we need to take the time and be still to think of all we have done. 

Its funny because of the type of stuff I do I can often forget to stop and appreciate my work - I'm usually too busy chasing or trying to finish the next "thing" and I mostly work 6-12 months ahead of anything going to print. I love what I do and I am incredibly lucky that I get my work published.

Thank you to everyone who reads my blog, makes my quilt patterns, takes my patchwork classes and sends me emails.

It means so very much to me and keeps me going in the work that I love.

Tomorrow I'll try to get a few better pics of the Quilt in the Magazine article and get some links up!

Here's to a very interesting next twelve months :)))

Its a disease......

last week I was helping out with my eldest boys high school cookbook publication - I was admiring the stylists amazing collection of linens, lace & props.

She declared that it was a disease!

I knew exactly what she meant....

when you collect things - its never ending.

I love so many things - fabric, art, ceramics, nature. The list is never ending and I'm always re arranging stuff all over the house.

Its funny how we all acquire bits and pieces, every piece has a story.

What do you collect?

I'm a bit rusty with my photography skills or lazy - not sure which one!

I've decided to put in a bit more effort & I've been practicing today!

NYC - Train trip to CT to see Denyse Schmidt

 

 I'm HOME !

I've been home for 4 days..........

The jet lag hit me pretty hard - I taught on day 2 of being home, I'm not sure I was coherent...  My students put up with me - which I am very very thankful for :)

I saw so much on my quick trip to the US - my mind is still buzzing

One of the more interesting & exciting things was catching the train up to Bridgeport CT and seeing Denyse Schmidts studio. 

I meet up with Julie - who is extra lovely - she showed me some of Denyse's lovely quilts and around the studio.

Its truly amazing to see everything in the flesh!

The Quilts looked beautiful in real life, its amazing to be able to see things that I have looked at a million times in books.

The current Schedule for DS Studios is crazy - Denyse is booked up till 2014, with a possible trip to Australia...... Lets hope that one comes to fruition!

I saw lots of quilts one being the Flowering Vine new pattern that has just come out. 

Thank you to Julie for spending the morning with me - talking about quilting and showing me lots of wonderful things in the studio - I felt right at home & it was Lovely to meet and chat with Denyse! truly inspirational business women and I look forward to what DS Quilts come up with next.

Enough room to swing a cat

For a long long time I have dreamed of having my own creative space & now its become a reality! 

Its still a work in progress - a few final finishes and external painting to do....

but Its about time for me to start filling it up with all my stuff & start doing some work.

I've spent the last few weeks procrastinating watching it all be built instead of knuckling down and getting things finished.

I anticipate another week of mucking around with my fabrics and rearranging things before any real work starts happening.....

Although thats not a luxury I have, I have a few deadlines to finish before I head away for a week in New York City early September.

Yep - thats right - I'm heading to NYC!

I have a few work meetings & hoping to see lots of fabric/ quilty stuff too.

I'd love any advice you might have :)

A quick bit of info about the studio fit out 

The walls are painted in- Taubmans Crisp White

The Wallpaper- Abigail Edwards Owls of the british isles 

Light fittings- From Freedom Furniture

The bench was made by my Dad and painted the same colour as the walls, the bench top is Corian bought on ebay.

The black wall was painted with Murobond Pirate chalk paint & the lounge is from Freedom Furniture

of course this is about the cleanest its ever going to look!

I'm sure there will be lots of photos taken once I fill it up and start using it.

I also have lots of "stuff" to fill you in on over the week.

Like a few new ranges of fabric I have gotten my hands on & some exciting happenings at CLOTH Fabric
