How many hours in a quilt??

Alot more than I thought!

scrap quilts are a great way of using bits of material or mindlessly sewing away.

As an experiment I actually took note of how much time this scrappy quilt took to make.

I was most surprised

all up to this stage

7hrs!

thats not including making the back and binding.

I dont know about you, but that seemed a long time to me - no pattern, just straight sewing. I didn't even make any huge mistakes that I had to undo.

I'm not complaining - I really enjoyed it, I love making quilts no matter how long they take.

I just hadn't timed myself before

anyway this is my 7hr Quilt Top

Next to make - is the back

and then off to the machine quilter

Chicken Spots

The joy of children
Half of my mob have come down with the chicken pox (apparently called Chicken spots if your 4 years of age). So far all good - a few big awful spots and a bit itchy, but I am only on day two.So Im not home free yet.
Lucky for me I have a bit of quilting to keep me occupied for my week at home house bound or trapped!!!!! some might even say.

Scrappy Quilt
This is Mrs Scrappy finally done and finished, I ended up binding her in a grey and white honeycomb - I think it's my new favourite neutral, it goes with everything!
anyway this Quilt is going to a lovely little one for her 1st Birthday = Happy Birthday Nyah :)

Be Square Quilt
The squares are so square! all right angles and exact. I especially like the way the squares jump out from the linen. Binding was done in my Fav pink paisley from Liberty of London, watch this space for some more liberty - I got gifted a nice little pile for my birthday not long ago, maybe this will be the week I cut it up??? Love Love Love Liberty.

I've started machine sewing my Binding on - Is that naughty? It's much much faster.

Pottering

Pottering along this week, which is nice :)
Weather is perfect - kids settled into school and all routine back in place after our 6 week summer break.
I've decided whilst I'm waiting on my big quilt tops to be machine quilted that I would make a cushion in matching material to the Zig Zag quilt (all the off cuts and scraps) and hand quilt it. It's been a while since I took it slow and made something little and everyone else seems to be making pillows/ cushion! so I had to aswell. This square is 80cm

I nearly went for Red thread but I wanted to match in with the Zig Zag quilt and it doesn't have any red in it - so maybe next pillow I'll get the red out :)

I narrowed it down to these three threads.

and this is what I'm doing with it, just randomly going around the inside of some squares. I'll keep going till it looks right......as usual no real plan - just going with the flow.

and this is the matching material in the Zig Zag Quilt.

Scrappy Quilt - Quick update

Final quilt for now - I think....at least till christmas is over

What do you Think?

I love a scrappy quilt, might be a bit of a fiddle - but it uses all the much loved bits of fabric and looks great

Hope your all getting your christmas stuff done (unlike me)
