Bella Quilt

Hi !

Just a quickie

I have a quilt on the cover of Down Under Quilts :)

Issue #156 in store now

and pattern inside

Its a nice big pattern great for a bedroom overhaul - Its a big but achievable pattern.

This quilt is made completely out "Bella" by Lotta Jansdotter for Windham Fabrics

because the pattern has large blocks its great for using large scale designed fabrics on

all three of Lotta Jansdotters fabric ranges would work perfectly in this pattern - as would many other Fabric ranges

I would love to try a version  using Julie Paterson's CLOTH Fabrics - It would look lovely!

I havent had a chance to photograph the quilt after the magazine finished with it....

I'll get round to it!

Lovely Liberty

I'm on the cover of Down Under Quilts Magazine in Australia !

well my quilt is :)

Down Under quilts Magazine #151 is now available to buy

I am extremely partial to liberty, I use it a lot. This particular quilt is ALL Liberty fabric! its so very lovely and soft.

The full story & pattern for this quilt is in issue #151 of Down Under Quilts

These two pictures where taken in the Liberty of London Store in October 2011

when I'm not in London (which is often, as I live in Sydney Australia) I buy my Liberty fabrics from Calico & Ivy Balmain
Its a lovely shop I highly recommend it.

This Lovely Liberty quilt had been on my mind for a while, it had been drawn and colour mapped on and off for a few months.

Then once I felt I had the right variance of colours in my fabric I dove in and made the top. It pieced together very easily and quickly. It's a nice simple pattern.

and on the back I used a shot cotton with a strip of pieced liberty remnants

for the binding I also used liberty, its so nice to sew. Liberty binding is perfect.

Lovely Liberty, Liberty Love

Working & Design

My favourite bit of all this blog/ quilt thing is getting to work with people who make great fabrics.

through out this year I have been working with the talented people from Cloth Fabric and experimenting with the Working CLOTH quilting range and here are some of the results.

Some new and exciting stuff is happening at CLOTH, a new range of quilting fabrics as well as a beautiful collaboration between Julie Patterson & Lucy Simpson - a local Sydney Indigenous designer (looking forward to making an awesome quilt with that fabric!)

The Zig Zag quilt above is in the current Down Under Quilts Magazine issue #149

I'm so very impressed with the team at Down Under Quilts! they made everything look just perfect.

It has the full pattern/ details if you would like to make it.

I think at the moment especially with these quilts, I am making the material do the talking - the design and lines of my quilts are simple.

The larges format of the images and the colour combinations are what makes the quilts special.

Keep an eye out for more quilts & patterns with Working CLOTH Fabrics.
& please if you make anything - send me an email! I'd love to see what you do.

on another note

I'm teaching at Calico & Ivy Balmain thursday 1st Sept, nice way to see in spring :)

and I'm off to London, Venice, Florence, Rome & Paris in a week or so.........
